Oil spills in PEI from aboveground oil storage tanks have been increasing over the past 10 years. Domestic home heat tanks have proven to be the major contributor to this problem. Homeowners, insurance companies, banks and real estate companies are all being affected by this problem.
PEI is tackling the domestic oil spill problem with a 4-phase approach that includes stakeholder consultations, public education, program assessment and proposed amendments to regulations.
This PowerPoint presentation includes the following sections: A history of recent oil spills on PEI; Oil spill contamination and how insurance companies, banks and the real estate industry are dealing with it; Tackling the oil spill problem; and, Why are we proposing amendments to the regulations now?
