Petroleum Hydrocarbon Remediation Regulations

Summary

The Prince Edward Island Department of Environment, Energy and Forestry (PEIDOEEF) has set the following regulations for petroleum contaminated site remediation. These regulations reflect the desire of PEIDOEEF to move the remediation of contaminated sites into a risk-based management approach rather than sole dependence on generic clean-up values.

A tiered approach allows the selection of different levels of site investigations, the use of Risk Based Screening Levels (RBSLs) based on a number of default assumptions chosen to be protective of human health and the environment for most site conditions, to the use of Site-Specific Target Levels (SSTLs) based on site specific conditions.
